Hommage to a Statue in the 14th Century.
2007
wedding dress, thread, cotton, photo(110x80cm)
I made this work in response to a French statue titled Royal Benefactress,
created by an unknown sculptor in the 14th century.
The statue, which I first saw in Berlin, has long fascinated me. For Homage...,
I considered this statue of the past in the context of the present; I thought about
what I would do, were I the artist having lived on for 600 years. I was also
interested in representing the original sculpture on my own terms,
in my own expressive language.
